Linux Foundation
is looking for aLinux Evangelist
Description
If you love Linux and you love blogging you will love this position. What we are looking for is someone who can build communities with content as well as build tools to make life easier for the developers.
The purpose of this position is to
1. To encourage application development on the Linux platform by providing tools, content and a community
2. To encourage portable Linux application development via the Linux Standard Base, its tools and community.
An important aspect of this site is that it will serve as the primary product face of the Linux Standard Base, meaning all end users of the standard/tools/test suites will find and utilize these offerings via the LDN. But the site is bigger than the LSB. The site will be a central community of application developers on top of Linux. This could be cloud computing, operational issues in software as a service, etc. It can also evolve to provide documentation on how to become a member of the greater Linux community (how to write device drivers, etc).
Key requirements/responsibilities of this job include:
1. Work closely with the LSB workgroup and LF engineering team to "productize" the LSB offerings so they are usable to ISVs. This is a leadership role that will take good communication and technical skills to document, write content and organize LSB tools appropriately.
2. Organize the LDN site so it's usable to a wide community of ISV and application developers. Lead the web development team on new features, timelines and implementation of the site. Lead the navigation development.
3. Interview and work closely with ISVs to understand their needs and design a product/commission content that fits that need. We want someone proactive who will actively engage with ISVs and catalog their needs and be a go -between them and the LSB community.
4. Write original content on the LSB but also on general Linux trends. Have a strong editorial voice. Be the face of this site.
5. Identify original articles from the Internet and catalog them into the LDN site. Writing context and finding good articles is key.
6. Find and manage outside editorial resources, both paid and unpaid, in key content areas.
7. Moderate forums and build a community. How will you keep people coming back? How will you engage them in this community?
8. Be a leader. Don't expect LF executive staff to micro-manage this site yet be open to direction and able to work with a broad number of stake holders and community members.
9. Be focused on high quality execution. We want the editorial and web design quality to be as good if not better than anything currently available in this cateory (O'Reilly for instance). We need someone who can get high quality work done and be responsible for producing a great product.
The person in this position will be evaluated on the following parameters:
1. Size and activity of the community using the site and its tools (number of registrations, hits, downloads of tools, etc)
2. Usage of LSB tools/products on site
3. Strength and quality of content on the site (original articles, guest bloggers, fresh information)
4. Use/mention of LDN content in other news/member sites.
5. Usage of LDN tools in other companies and/or projects. (Upstream projects using tests, distros using tools/content)
